City Girl - Am I??

Am I a City Girl? I think I am... I am from this cosmopolitan city in India (Not sure if you have heard about this place) now called Mumbai, earlier it was Bombay.

I was always surrounded by People being very busy trying to get to places, or street vendors selling aromatic, yummy food, inexpensive food and all of them changing as per the weather, for e.g. in summer we would have lemonade, buttermilk, icicles (all Indian flavored) and during winters we would have coal fired corn, samosas , vada pav....

So..... why am i sharing all this, cause i am now away from home and recently in a place that makes me very happy as it is most close to how my hometown is. San Francisco, CA.....as I get off of the busy BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and totally not kidding when I say its packed during rush hours....(Reminds me of the Crowded Mumbai Trains) these high rises all office buildings and some apartment building as well.

There are people all around occupied or trying to get some places, long lines outside the coffee shops and the breakfast places, street vendors/food trucks at lunch time, break time walks & coffee breaks around 3 pm. What gets to me or makes me happy time and again that its vibrant, happening and has so much life. Its full of color, fashion and people from different walks of life.

Those Tall Buildings
It has a night life, high end restaurants, gyms, art, historic landmarks, farmers market  as well as these yum hole in the wall places that make you want to never leave this place. As the rush hour comes to an end I have to leave for the day to go home,  a calmness settles over me and I want to get to my quiet nest and recoup for the next day full of hustle bustle.

    Beautiful post. I would say there are lot of common things between Mumbai and San Francisco, and Chennai too. The best I love in all these 3 cities, we can have hot breakfast at 4:30 a.m.

    BART is crowded. I know. Commuted in BART for several years. There is a joke about what the acronym for BART stands for. Buses Are Reliable Transportation.

    I loved that Chaat seller :) the food looks yummy. not been to San Fransisco or Bay area so cant say much on that .. Although the pics look lovely

      Thanks for the Comment, How much ever its crowded and reminds me of Mumbai.... nothing can replace the Chaat wallas and Mombai spirit :-)

    I have also felt the energy spike in Mumbai... but the city is too fast. Chennai will do for me :)

Friends Forever

I am a person who loves to build friendships to last a lifetime, it takes a while with every person, as i take my own sweet time building trust and opening up. As i was thinking about my best friend today who is far away in India, and thanks to social media we are in touch every day, its interesting the way we began our friendship Lets call my partner in all Crimes ;) Vi. She moved to the apartment near me when we were in 2nd grade, and when she moved we already had an existing gang of kids in the area who played together, the leader was called Joy. Vi was very friendly and was easily accepted into the gang. Joy and Vi were playing a game called Jolly.... silly game now that i think about it, you are supposed to mark you hands with this little blob and then when you meet the person anytime you are playing this with, you need to show your hand, and if both have , its good, if not the one who doesn't have it should give the other one a candy. Memories - I Miss You

My earliest memory are of my cousins, my brother and myself playing Bus Conductor (Ticket collector) and passengers where he would have this cardboard with newspaper pieces stapled to it and we would get on the bus and ask for tickets to different locations and he would tear them off, give them to us for some invisible money we give him. (BTW this game was in the balcony of our home in Mumbai) I miss you Anna (Anna was my way of calling him "Big Brother") As a child even though I am 7 years younger to him, i would keep even the littlest piece/quantity of food for him to share. My mom would do this prasad (Offering for god) every evening in this little cup Milk and sugar and would give it to me, i would always always keep even a little drop for him.
